At Coonong, we raise Dohne Merinos. These animals are nonmulesed, are highly fertile, and are able to graze all their lives on the Riverina's amazing native grasslands. With 20.6 micron wool, a 99 comfort factor, and exceptional wool spinning characteristics, these animals are able to create an incredible product. We strongly believe in working to exceed expectations for animal welfare, and in doing so all production complies with strict RWS guidelines and the Five Freedoms. We have constant veterinary care and frequent production advice to really ensure that all animals live pain free, and healthy from disease, pain and illness. Livestock are grazed in a symbiotic relationship with native grasslands and wildlife, and constant monitoring of all animals and the environment allows us to achieve optimal conditions to achieve beneficial and sustainable production.

Animal welfare at its’ highest level means understanding the physical and psychological needs of animals, and then enacting practices that ensure the highest standards of care. This refers to all animals - both our livestock, as well as our native animals. Our staff all undertake training in animal welfare, and we constantly strive to for not just good but exceptional. We aim to reflect this through everything we do. Part of this is through the active participation in accreditation programs, in particular, the Responsible Wool Standard and the Certified Humane. We are the first property outside of the USA to be Certified Humane, and are among the largest properties in Australia involved in the Responsible Wool Standard program. Both have the highest level of farm animal welfare requirements and provide a platform for measuring and maintaining exceptional animal welfare, biodiversity, and regenerative farming practices. We are extremely proud to be involved in both programs.
